Mobile Kitchens to Mid-day Meals to Feed Hungry School Children
Nandyal is about 20 sq Km in size with a population of 2 Lakhs in the Kurnool District in the North West of Andhra Pradesh. Here government run primary schools are spread across large distances but are also required to provide meals to children under the Mid-day Meal scheme.
Students were not given safe and adequate meals here due to the poor quality of grains and extremely unhygienic kitchen conditions with minimal cooking infrastructure.
In 2016, We were invited by JSW Cement to find a unique soluon to provide Meals for the children in schools which were ample in variety and prepared right there on site.
The team at ANNADA worked for 2 months and leveraged the PLANET group’s experience in designing Fit to purpose and low cost infrastructure for operational efficiencies and adherence to food quality and safety.
A self sufficient pre-fabricated modular kitchen unit was created to augment the existing kitchen. The well-ventilated mobile kitchen unit came complete with SS-304 quality steel-based Kitchen equipment, an R.O. filter unit, and collapsible Board games for children to play while eating.
The kitchen is now the favorite area in this school of 200 children.
Our current programs include locations as diverse as rural Anganwadis, village schools, and an urban Children Observation home.
