Our journey began with irony, confusion and empathy.
The irony was that despite being the world’s 2nd largest producer of wheat and Rice and a leader in production of several agricultural products, India also had the largest number of hungry people and malnourished children in the world.
While we strongly empathized with the challenges faced by these communities, we were confused about what it is that caused such extensive Hunger and Malnutrition.
Research indicated that 20 Million people sleep hungry every night, almost 3,000 children lose their lives every day due to malnutrition related causes and every 5th child suffers from stunting.
The visible and direct impact of this was death and diseases, but the wider impact on the nation included economic disparity, loss of GDP, Reduced growth and even an increase in crime.
Our resolve
We identified that Child Malnutrition was the single largest challenge that could cripple our human capital & national growth and perpetuate the cycle of poverty.
The Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UNDP prioritized Ending Hunger and Malnutrition at #2 with a key milestone for 2025 – To End all forms of malnutrition and achieve the internationally agreed targets on stunting and wasting in children under 5 years of age, and address the nutritional needs of adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women.
Our group had 50+ years of experience in providing safe, Hygienic meals with consistent quality at economic costs across diverse geographies and scale.
We decided to wage the war on Hunger with Maternal and Child Malnutrition at the core. Our strongest instrument in this endeavour would be to use Innovative Food Solutions.
We have resolved to end malnutrition and eradicate hunger
ANNADA – Association for NutritioN And Development Action has been incubated by the PLANET group to address hunger & malnutrition among vulnerable communities by leveraging innovative food technologies, integrating with communities, fostering collaborations and engaging digital technologies.
